Heave-ho

It's the Easter break. Everyone keep asking how long I'm on holiday, "well, I'm not in lectures for 3 weeks, does that count as a holiday?" Apparently the word "holiday" doesn't mean anything for a University student.
Christmas is filled with revision for the exams to come in January, Easter is filled with revision, and summer is for this year only, packed full (hopefully) with meeting participants and filling up my lovely new Oxford notepad with observations and notes.
Yep, it's that part of my university career; the dissertation. It's rearing it's big, expectant head, waiting to be fed no doubt many hours of sweat, blood (let's hope not), and most definitely; tears.

So in answer to your earlier question: "How long are you on holiday for?"

visite à Londres

At Christmas time, my family usually do something to start off the season or bring it to an end. This year, we went down to London to see Blood Brothers in the Pheonix Theatre. However, when walking through the rather damp city centre, you could hear all the rich tones of French, Mandarin, some Spanish and maybe the odd German voice. Even when the rain is pouring, the boutiques are heaving and the cafes are ridiculously priced the city is still a huge tourist attraction; me being one of them. But what puzzled me is the lack of English people not only visiting their capital city, but the very small number of English working in the city in the hospitality sector mainly. In Harrods out of the huge number of employees, I found two lovely English ladies who served me in the gift section. Although I did not visit the whole shop, we didn't have that much time, or a sleeping bag for the night!

This wasn't my first time to London, but as I was much younger I cannot remember much of it at all. So, this experience was one of bright lights and rich smells and deafening horns and nibble black cabs. But I'm struggling to understand why so few Brits are enjoying the nucleus to their country? The expense may be one reason, granted, but there are plenty of alternatives to dining in the Ritz and slumbering at the Savoy.

I think we should enjoy the era we have surrounding us before it's gone or we are no longer able to be bewitched with it's immense power.

Beginning of an era

This Christmas I asked for an SLR camera from my parents; as I am at university in North Wales in the Snowdonia area, the scenery is rather spectacular. As a starter to my photography skills, I got a Fuji S1500 compact SLR. So my boyfriend and I have been fiddling with the settings and lights and Christmas decorations to see what we can get out of the camera. And needless to say it's fantastic. Although the photo to the side was taken on the auto set function there are some awesome photos in my baby portfolio.

I've been looking into going into some kind of journalism in my future career, and maybe this could be another level to explore; photojournalism. So, hopefully, as the days go by I'll get some more inspiration as to what to write about with the help of my new camera.

Thanks for reading.
